Born and raised in a small city in southern Nigeria, Dr. Eseoghene Abokede has called the United States home since 2004. One of seven children, Dr. Abokede’s family deeply values education and service to others.

“Serving people is one of the big reasons I entered the medical field,” Dr. Abokede said. “The other aspect is intellectual curiosity. I’ve always been interested in science, and this field allows me to satisfy that desire to continuously learn.”

Dr. Abokede enjoyed rotations in a number of different specialties throughout medical school, which explains why she chose family medicine as her career field.

“Family medicine is the only specialty that gives you access to all ages of people and to treat the entire body. It’s the only specialty that gives me the opportunity to serve patients across the spectrum,” Dr. Abokede said.

Dr. Abokede was drawn to Marshfield Clinic Health System because of the organization’s patient-centered focus. She strives to make sure that patients are always at the center of her practice.

“I want my patients to feel heard,” Dr. Abokede said. “I want to make sure that, whomever I’m seeing, young or old, feels listened to.”

She hopes that when patients leave her office, they will feel they have received two things: quality care and compassionate treatment.

Dr. Abokede earned her medical degree from American University of Antigua College of Medicine and completed her residency at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
