“I like in-hospital care. I feel it’s challenging.”

Provider Bio down arrow

Dr. Mirela Sandru is a native of Romania who came to Marshfield after practicing for about a year at a hospital in Wausau. She cares for patients at Marshfield Hospital in Marshfield.

While hospitalist care is still a relatively new specialty in the United States, she said it’s well-established elsewhere. “In Romania, primary care physicians almost never come to the hospital. They leave the in-hospital care to hospitalists. It was like that all over Europe.”

Dr. Sandru earned her medical degree at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest. She completed a residency in family practice/pediatrics in Romania and an internal medicine residency at the University of Miami in Florida.

She was drawn to Marshfield Clinic not only by the hospitalist position, but because she has an interest in research, especially for the role of human genetics in cancer, and teaching.

She and her husband, Florin, have one son and enjoy skiing, skating, and snowshoeing.
