Dr. Ivan Maldonado is a trauma and critical care surgeon at Marshfield Clinic Health System. Prior to that he was the acute care surgery director at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York.

He completed two surgical critical care fellowships, at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune and at Cooper Hospital UMC in Camden, both in New Jersey. He completed his general surgery residency and earned his medical degree at Ponce School of Medicine in Puerto Rico.

“I enjoy the challenges of surgery and I have passion for caring for critically ill people,” he said. “It can be nerve-wracking because you never know what you’re going to see and that makes you think on your feet. In a way, it’s thrilling but also quite challenging. It forces you to put together all the skills you have, and fast.”

He was attracted to the Health System by the long history by its long history, quality reputation and the professionalism of the people he met. Dr. Maldonado and his wife, Maria, are now “empty nesters” who were looking for a slower pace and change of lifestyle than they had in Brooklyn. They have two grown children and he enjoys raising love birds, and practicing the martial art of aikido.
