Three Nationally Accredited Breast Centers
Recognition acknowledges quality of care
At Marshfield Clinic, helping area women win their fight against breast cancer is a top priority.
That is why we’re so pleased to announce the Wausau and Weston Centers now join the Marshfield Center in earning full accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC).
Accreditation involves a rigorous review of our breast care program by the American College of Surgeons, a board that includes professionals from 15 national organizations that represent the full spectrum of breast care.
During this process, Marshfield Clinic met or exceeded 27 standards of excellence in the following categories:
- Center leadership
- Clinical management
- Quality improvement
- Patient education
- Support
- Rehabilitation and survivorship
- Research
- Community outreach
Marshfield Clinic, the first provider in central and northern Wisconsin to achieve NAPBC accreditation, is the only provider with three accredited facilities: Marshfield Center, Wausau Center and Weston Center.

How does accreditation benefit you?
It means breast care patients now have access to truly comprehensive care at three accredited locations - from diagnosis and treatment to reconstruction and support.
Patients have quick access to care, benefit from a team-based approach and receive one-on-one support from a breast care coordinator.
Breast cancer patients are cared for by a comprehensive team of cancer specialists, which can include a breast care coordinator, mammographer, medical oncologist and surgical oncologist.
Additional team members may include experts from a variety of specialties: radiation therapy, pathology, plastic surgery, physical therapy, lymphedema therapy, medical genetics, research, psychiatry and counseling.
Specialists hold a weekly breast conference to thoroughly review and discuss each individual case.
This enables the team to discuss treatment options and recommend a plan that best suits each individual patient.
Marshfield Clinic’s electronic medical record also ensures that all members of your care team, including Marshfield Clinic primary care providers, have access to your current test results, physician notes and treatment plans.
Receiving support from so many different resources helps minimize the anxiety that comes with a diagnosis of breast disease.
Having three accredited centers offers patients the option of receiving this superior level of care in a location most convenient for them.
