MARSHFIELD CLINIC SEEKS VOLUNTEERS FOR DIABETES STUDY
Marshfield Clinic researchers are seeking volunteers with Type 2 diabetes for a research study that will look at the effectiveness and safety of an investigational diabetes medication combination.
Steven Yale, M.D., a Marshfield Clinic Internal Medicine physician, is the principal investigator for this study at Marshfield Clinic Marshfield Center and Anshu Varma, M.D., a Marshfield Clinic Internal Medicine physician, is the principal investigator at Marshfield Clinic Weston Center.
The purpose of the study is to examine the safety and efficacy of a medication combination of metformin and pioglitazone, medications already approved for Type 2 diabetes treatment, along with either sitagliptin or a placebo over a 26-week treatment period, to see if adding sitagliptin provides Type 2 diabetes patients with better glycemic control.
Participants in the randomized, double-blind study will receive a combination of metformin and pioglitazone along with either sitagliptin or a placebo. They will receive study-related care and medication at no charge.
Adults age 18 – 78 who have an HbA1c levels between 7.5 mg/dl and 11 mg/dl, and who are currently taking combination treatment, with one of the treatments being metformin, may be eligible to participate.
