Jeff J. Tavassoli, D.O., has joined the Orthopaedics Department at Marshfield Clinic Marshfield Center as a foot and ankle surgeon. He comes to Marshfield from Florida, where he was in the Department of Orthopaedics at the Jacksonville Naval Hospital.

Tavassoli earned his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency in Orthopaedic surgery at the Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, Virginia. He also completed a fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at the University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida, and at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.

He served in the U.S. Navy for 10 years on active duty, and another four years in the Naval Reserve. He was the regimental surgeon for the 4th Marine Regiment in Okinawa, Japan. He was also deployed to the Expeditionary Medical Facility in Kuwait in defense of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Other deployments included tours to Thailand, Hong Kong, Korea and the Philippines.

"I interviewed in several places, but my wife, Kathy, and I were very impressed with Marshfield Clinic and the quality of the people in the Orthopaedic department," Tavassoli said.

In addition, he was pleased to come to a well-respected institution with support from many specialties, where he will be able to focus on foot and ankle problems, many of them fractures related to arthritis, diabetes and trauma.
