MARSHFIELD CLINIC MINOCQUA CENTER TO HOST HEALTH TALK ON ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE
Marshfield Clinic Minocqua Center will be hosting a free Health Talk at 6 p.m. Thursday, October 15, in Marshfield Clinic Minocqua Center’s Internal Medicine waiting area. The topic will be “Understanding Alzheimer’s Disease.”
Tom Gabert, M.D., Marshfield Clinic internal medicine physician, will provide a general overview of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia and Mary Forester, D.O., Marshfield Clinic neurologist, will share current diagnostic and treatment options. They will join Julie St. Pierre, Alzheimer’s Association outreach specialist, who will discuss valuable resources available to support families and care partners.
According to the Alzheimer’s Association, more than 116,000 people in Wisconsin and 5.3 million people in the United States are affected by this disease and, as our population ages, the numbers will continue to grow. Every 70 seconds someone is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s – it is the public health threat of the 21st century and the sixth leading cause of death for people in the United States.
“By intervening in the disease process, we are working towards limiting the disabling effects and lessening the impact in families, communities and our health care systems. Numbers of people affected by Alzheimer’s disease will continue to grow as the baby boomer generation approaches the age of highest risk for developing the disease,” St. Pierre said.
Refreshments will be provided and registration is not necessary. For more information, call Marshfield Clinic at 715-358-1320.
The Marshfield Clinic system provides patient care, research and education with 45 locations in northern, central and western Wisconsin, making it one of the largest comprehensive medical systems in the United States.
