Vascular Surgeon Michal Nawalany, M.D., has joined Marshfield Clinic Marshfield Center’s General Surgery Department.

Nawalany learned about Marshfield Clinic while in his vascular surgery fellowship at University of Wisconsin Hospitals & Clinic, Madison.

“My family enjoys living in Wisconsin. Marshfield Clinic happened to be looking for a vascular surgeon, and because the Clinic has a great reputation, I felt it would be a good fit for me and my family,” he said.

Nawalany enjoys all aspects of vascular surgery.

“I was exposed to complex aortic surgery while in my fellowship program and I found it fascinating. Aortic reconstruction and the challenges it presents is professionally fulfilling to me,” he said. “I also enjoy being able to provide minimally-invasive as well as traditional methods of treatment.”

The patients he sees tend to be overall quite sick and when they present on emergent basis it is often life threatening, Nawalany noted.

“Empathy is very important. As an immigrant I can relate to many hardships and know the meaning of hard work. I try to implement that in my practice and do what’s best for my patients,” he said.

Nawalany earned his medical degree from Jagiellonian University Collegium Medicum, Cracow, Poland. He served his general surgery internship at Providence Hospital, Southfield, Michigan, and his general surgery residency at University of Florida-Shands, Jacksonville, Florida.
