Quality in Health Care

CMS Demonstration

Designated as a national model for health care reform, Marshfield Clinic is one of only 10 sites in the United States selected by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to take part in a Physician Group Practice (PGP) Demonstration Project.

CMS is the federal agency that administers the Medicare program. The goal of the project is to provide better quality care while reducing health care costs. The reduced costs come from preventing avoidable illnesses and hospitalizations through increased patient education, care management, and monitoring between visits with your health care provider.

Patients can continue to rely on Marshfield Clinic to provide state-of-the-art care that prevents illness and progression of chronic disease – care that is safe, effective, patient centered, timely, efficient and equitable.

Quality measures

A component of the CMS PGP Demonstration Project is the collection and measurement of 32 quality measures, based on evidence-based best practices for chronic disease and preventative care. Sections of the quality measures will be assessed each of the three years of the project, continually adding until all 32 measures are being collected during the final year.

We measure quality results by tracking outcomes – a formal clinical method of following the results of each patient. This research is used to determine how well we provide care to patients undergoing certain procedures or for patients with certain medical conditions.

Marshfield Clinic is proud to be a leader in providing quality care. By participating in the CMS PGP Demonstration Project, we are developing new ways to improve the care we give to our patients. What we learn over the next few years will be used to improve quality and lower costs across the country, transforming health care as we know it.
