Donor Recognition

Marshfield Clinic is grateful for the tremendous support received annually in furtherance of our mission to provide high-quality health care, research and education.

Donations to Marshfield Clinic, a 501(c)(3) organization, are tax-deductible to the extent provided by law.

Each year we post a complete list of our individual donors and business and foundation donors to our Web site to acknowledge their generous contributions in the prior calendar year.

Family and friends remember a loved one by making a tribute gift in their memory. Patients make gifts in honor of their physician or provider in appreciation for the great care they provided. Others chose to make a gift in honor of a friend, loved one or other important person in their life who has made an impact or celebrated a milestone.

All donors whose cumulative gifts total $1,000 or more are recognized on the Lifetime Giving Wall located at the Marshfield Clinic main campus. The Lifetime Giving Wall will soon be redesigned and relocated to the Clinic lobby, so we are sorry to report that updates to the Lifetime Giving Wall are currently on hold. Donor recognition is also being planned for our major regional centers.

To honor and thank those individuals whose cumulative giving has reached $10,000 and $25,000 or more, and to recognize those who have included Marshfield Clinic in their estate with a deferred gift, we have the following donor recognition societies:

Dr. Ben R. Lawton

Lawton Society
Ben R. Lawton, M.D., was a general and thoracic surgeon at Marshfield Clinic for 33 years. He passed away in 1987 at the age of 64. Throughout his remarkable career, Dr. Lawton worked tirelessly for scientific investigation, education and social responsibility.

He believed the way to providing the "best medicine" was through research and education. The Lawton Center, named in honor of Dr. Lawton, houses the foundations for medical research and education.

The Lawton Society, created in 1991, was the first philanthropic organization established for Marshfield Clinic friends and donors. Honoring three-time Clinic president Dr. Lawton, membership in the Lawton Society begins when cumulative giving reaches $10,000 or more or with a pledge of $10,000 or more to be paid outright or over time (at least $1,000 per year).

Lawton Society members receive a plaque and are invited to attend special events highlighting the Clinic’s health care, research and education mission.

The Honorable Melvin R. Laird

Laird Fellows
The Laird Fellows philanthropic organization was initially established in 1994 to honor and recognize Melvin R. Laird, Marshfield native and former Wisconsin State Senator, United States Congressman and U.S. Secretary of Defense.

Mr. Laird was a ranking member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee from 1953 to 1969. He coauthored legislation to finance the construction of the National Institutes of Health in Washington D.C. and the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta.

Mr. Laird continues to champion health care, medical research and education. The Laird Center for Medical Research is a tribute to Mr. Laird’s ongoing dedication to improving the quality of life for all.

Membership in the Laird Fellows begins when cumulative giving reaches $25,000 or more or with a pledge of $25,000 or more to be paid outright or over time (at least $2,500 per year). A plaque featuring the donor's name will be placed on the Lifetime Giving Wall.

Laird Fellows receive a plaque and are invited to attend special events highlighting the Clinic’s health care, research and education mission.

Dr. Karl W. Doege

Doege Founders Club
In 1890, Karl W. Doege, M.D., came to Marshfield to pursue his dream to establish a medical practice. He did not revel in prestige, but rather took pride in his ability to provide quality health care to the Marshfield Community.

Dr. Doege and five other physicians decided they could provide better medical care if they pooled their expertise and resources. They founded Marshfield Clinic in 1916. Their mission, to serve patients through accessible, high quality health care, research and education has helped Marshfield Clinic become the largest private group medical practice in Wisconsin and one of the largest in the United States.

The Doege Founders Club has been formed to recognize and honor friends and benefactors of the Clinic who, like Dr. Doege and the Marshfield Clinic founders were, committed to quality medical care, research and education. Members of the Doege Founders Club have generously committed a planned or deferred gift. This will help ensure that the highest quality medical care is available for future generations.

Members of the Doege Founders Club receive a clock, permanent recognition on the Doege Founders Club giving wall and are invited to attend special events highlighting the Clinic's health care, research and education mission. When the gift is received, permanent recognition is also provided on the Lifetime Giving Wall.
