Deferred Gifts
Bequests
A will is the cornerstone of every estate plan.
Friends of Marshfield Clinic frequently name the Clinic as a
beneficiary in their will. Many are interested in our medical research and
education projects and wish to support these causes.
A charitable bequest may be drafted as a fixed-dollar amount or as a
percentage of the residuary estate. Most donors make their bequests
unrestricted to allow the use of funds where they are most needed. See an
example
which your attorney may consider using in your will to create a charitable
bequest.

Charitable Remainder Trust
A charitable remainder trust is a trust which reserves for you, the
donor, either an income for life or for a term of years. Donors may elect
to receive an amount each year equal to a fixed percentage of fair market
value of the trust assets, or elect to receive a set dollar amount each
year.
Charitable Gift Annuity
A charitable gift annuity is a contract between you and the Clinic that
allows you to make a gift while the Clinic agrees to pay you and/or your
spouse an annuity for life. This popular giving vehicle also offers you a
generous income tax deduction.
Charitable Lead Trust
If you own assets that have appreciated, you may want to consider
establishing a charitable lead trust. This type of trust provides that the
Clinic receives income for a specified term of years, after which the
principal is returned to you, the donor, your children or others.
Life Insurance
A gift of Life Insurance may allow substantial tax savings. You receive
an immediate income tax charitable deduction, and the policy is removed
from your estate, reducing estate taxes.
