Research Programs

Overview

The goal of the Clinical Research Center is to provide high quality of research services to our patients, sponsors, investigators, and departments.

Multispecialty Program – This program supports and delivers high quality service to all investigators and departments involved in clinical trials.

Oncology Program – This program is an integral component of clinical care at Marshfield Clinic Cancer Care and Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation (MCRF).

Molecular Microbiology Laboratory – Lead by Molecular Microbiologist Dr. Sanjay Shukla, Ph.D., this laboratory is focusing on the mechanisms and molecular epidemiology of MRSA; the surveillance and molecular epidemiology of a tick-borne zoonotic pathogen; and the discovery, characterization, and phylogenetic analysis of novel human and animal pathogens.

Vector Biology Laboratory – Infectious Disease Staff Scientist Jennifer Meece, Ph.D.’s interests are focused on zoonotic diseases, especially those transmitted by mosquitoes and ticks. The research has both a basic science as well as public health focus.

Personalized Medicine Research Project (PMRP) – The goal of this is to translate genetic data into specific knowledge about disease that is clinically relevant and will enhance patient care.

Marshfield Epidemiologic Study Area (MESA) – This area is a geographic region defined by zip codes where the great majority of residents choose to receive medical care at Marshfield Clinic, its regional centers and affiliated hospitals. It is a unique resource for population-based health research when combined with health data from the Marshfield Clinic.

Rural Cancer Research Center – The mission of this center is to evaluate the impact environmental and occupational exposure has on the development of diseases that are more common in rural and agricultural populations.

In-Patient Clinical Research – The Marshfield Clinic and Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation in-patient facilities are located adjacent to Saint Joseph’s Hospital. Marshfield Clinic physicians provide virtually all care to patients of Saint Joseph’s Hospital.
