Auction of Champions surpasses $2 million mark

The Auction of Champions -- Marshfield’s premier social event and top annual fundraiser for the Clinic Development Department – raised $210,000 and has now surpassed $2 million total since the first Auction was held in 1982.

Taking the theme, “Paradise Awaits,” Marshfield-area businesses and a committee of 50 community members bucked a year of rough economic news to make possible another successful Auction benefiting the work of the National Farm Medicine Center.

Half the proceeds raised September 24 at Clearwaters Hotel and Convention Center will be dedicated to the Stueland Endowment. The Dr. Dean T. Stueland Endowment Fund was established in 2000 to foster and promote research and outreach/educational programs in emergency medicine, agricultural medicine, and/or alcohol and other drug abuse (AODA) medicine, all special interests of the former Marshfield Clinic vice president.

For the second year in a row, Joellen Heiman, of Weber’s Farm Store and Nasonville Dairy, drew a chance to compete in “Deal or No Deal” and bargained her way to the grand finale prize. Hanging onto the case she picked initially, Heiman went home with $7,500.

Randy and Jessica LeMoine, of Marshfield, won "Match Made in Paradise," a new segment of the Auction patterned after the television’s "Newlywed Game." Five couples were chosen in a drawing to play and were awarded points each time their answers matched.

Top live auction packages included a week's stay on the Big Island of Hawaii, a package for six people to play golf with University of Wisconsin basketball coach Bo Ryan, an "Amazing Race"-themed scavenger hunt party and the chance to be ball boy for the Badger men's basketball team.

Tom Tasse of Hewitt Meat Processing, Marshfield, was announced as the 2010-2011 Auction Chair. He follows Al Nystrom, president, M&I Bank Marshfield Group.
